Following the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s (LPGA) decision to revise its gender eligibility policies, Davidson’s response sparked backlash from the golf community, reigniting debates about inclusivity and fairness in the sport.
The LPGA, in collaboration with the U.S. Golf Association (USGA), announced in late 2024 that, starting January 1, 2025, players must be assigned female at birth or have transitioned before male puberty to participate in women’s tournaments. “Can’t say I didn’t see this coming. Banned from the Epson and the LPGA. All the silence and people wanting to stay ‘neutral’—thanks for absolutely nothing. This happened because of all your silence.”
Her remarks drew a mixed response from the golf community. Supporters of the policy change, including some prominent golfers, argued that the LPGA’s decision ensures a level playing field for competitors. Critics of Davidson’s statement claimed it unfairly placed blame on others in the community while sidestepping the broader conversation about physiological advantages in sports.

In an open letter signed by nearly 300 female golfers, the LPGA was urged to uphold its decision to bar transgender women who transitioned after male puberty. The letter highlighted concerns about the potential physical advantages that male puberty might provide, including strength and endurance, even after transitioning.
Supporters of Davidson argue that the exclusionary policies are discriminatory and undermine the progress made toward greater inclusivity in sports. They point out that Davidson has met all previous LPGA criteria, including maintaining testosterone levels below the required threshold.
