Gage Workman Sends Heartfelt Message to Cubs Fans After Trade to White Sox

After a whirlwind few months with the Chicago Cubs, infielder Gage Workman took a moment to send a heartfelt message to Cubs fans following his trade to the Chicago White Sox. Though his time in Wrigleyville was brief, Workman made it clear the experience left a lasting impact.

“Thank you to the Cubs organization and all the amazing fans for welcoming me with open arms,” Workman wrote on social media. “I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to wear the Cubs jersey, even if it was only for a short time. Excited for the next chapter — thank you, Chicago!”

Workman, 25, was selected by the Cubs in the Rule 5 Draft this past offseason after impressing with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves, where he showcased his athleticism and power at the plate. In Chicago, he made his MLB debut on Opening Day 2025 and appeared in nine games, collecting three hits and a pair of RBIs.

However, with the Cubs’ roster depth and playoff aspirations, it became difficult to find consistent playing time for Workman. After being designated for assignment, he was traded to the White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell praised Workman’s professionalism and attitude, acknowledging the difficult position Rule 5 picks often find themselves in.

“He handled everything the right way,” Counsell said. “We just couldn’t give him the opportunity he deserved here. He’s got a bright future, and we’re happy he’s getting another shot.”

Workman now joins a White Sox team eager to add young, versatile talent as they continue to retool their roster. His switch-hitting ability, defensive flexibility, and upside make him an intriguing addition to Chicago’s South Side plans.

While his time with the Cubs was short, Workman’s message showed just how much he valued the experience — and how much he’s looking forward to what’s ahead.
