Mavericks PJ Washington forward issues hopeful message after grueling season

The 2024-25 season posed plenty of challenges for the Dallas Mavericks, but PJ Washington still found ways to shine. Despite dealing with injuries, he had several standout performances, earning praise from Kyrie Irving, who called him a “budding star” during the season. After the Mavs’ campaign wrapped up, Washington posted a hopeful message on Instagram.

“Year 6,” he wrote. “Thank you GOD. Year 7 coming soon.”

PJ Washington’s Impact in 2024-25

At 26 years old, Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, along with 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 45.3% from the floor and 38.1% from three-point range, continuing to prove himself as a dependable contributor. Dallas is optimistic he’ll remain healthier in the coming year.

Injuries limited Washington to 57 games (56 starts), part of a larger injury crisis that affected the entire Mavericks roster. Head coach Jason Kidd repeatedly mentioned how unprecedented the team’s health struggles were. At one point, there was even concern the Mavs might not have enough players to field a team, though they narrowly avoided that scenario.

If Dallas can stay healthy in 2025-26, they have a legitimate shot at being a playoff contender again. Washington’s development will be key to their success. For now, he and the team are getting some much-needed rest before attention turns to the offseason, the NBA Draft, and preparing for next year.
