Scottie Scheffler Explains Frustrating Putter Outburst Before The Open Championship

Scottie Scheffler has opened up about a rare moment of frustration with his putter that left even him confused ahead of this year’s Open Championship. Known for his calm and composed demeanor on the course, Scheffler admitted he lost his cool during a recent round after struggling to sink routine putts.

The world number one said the putter “just wasn’t behaving,” and the missed opportunities started to wear him down. At one point, he admitted to questioning everything about his stroke, calling the experience “perplexing and annoying.”

“I felt like I was hitting good putts, but nothing was dropping,” Scheffler said. “It gets frustrating when you’re doing everything right and still not seeing results. I let that frustration get the better of me for a moment.”

The incident has sparked attention as Scheffler heads into The Open, where putting on tricky links greens can often make or break a player’s week. Despite the hiccup, he insists he’s now in a better headspace and is sticking with the same putter, hoping to rediscover his touch when it matters most.

“It happens,” he added. “You move on, keep practicing, and stay confident.”
