PGA Tour pro goes ‘undercover’ for club fitting, doesn’t even get pegged as a scratch golfer by store employee

We’ve seen videos where people guess golfer’s handicaps based on their swing through the years, but none involving a PGA Tour pro. Because PGA Tour pros don’t need to maintain handicaps.

But one got a hilarious assessment from an unsuspecting golf equipment employee earlier this week.

Zac Blair was a late add to this week’s 3M Open, getting off the alternate list on Wednesday. And with storms hitting Minnesota, he decided to go to a nearby Golf Galaxy to get dialed in. That’s when he had a friend start videoing his “undercover” driver fitting.

At one point, the friend asks the store worker, Nick—who seemed incredibly knowledgable by the way—what he thought Blair’s handicap was. Clearly not recognizing who he was, Nick said a one-handicap. But then he added that he’s a 2.5 and when asked if he thought Blair would beat him, he said, “No.”

Just an amazing clip all around that also includes Nick giving Zac some pointers. Have a look and listen:

So good. Now to be fair to Nick, Blair has always been one of the shortest hitters on the PGA Tour. But still, you’d think he would guess that a PGA Tour player with nearly $8 million in career earnings to be at least a scratch golfer. Heck, look at the crazy 120-yard PUTT he recently pulled off at Oakmont during U.S. Open week.

By the way, Blair went back and picked up the driver that Nick put him in. And then he went out and torched TPC Twin Cities for an opening 64. As we know, these PGA Tour guys are good. And so is Nick at his job!

As Blair explained on Instagram, he found himself in a similar situation a couple years back in Canada when his driver broke during the first round and all the equipment trucks had left the tournament. And while his videos “aren’t intended to make fun of people” it gave him this funny idea to record.

“I hope we can get a few more good ones for everyone to enjoy,” Blair said on Instagram.

We do too, Zach.
