Summer may finally be cooling off, but tempers are still running hot on the course. Don’t take our word for it, though. Just check out the police blotter of East Greenwich, Rhode Island’s finest, who arrested two golfers last month following an on-course altercation that ended with one man getting hit over the head with a putter and the assailant having his $4,000 set of clubs thrown into the lake.
According to police and WJAR News, it all began when 20-year-old Cameron Chase of Rumsford, Ma. allegedly hit into the group ahead of him while they were finishing up on the green. The confrontation escalated, and eventually Chase stuck the victim with his putter, leaving wounds to back left side of his head. Chase fled into the woods while the victim was transported to Kent County Hospital for his injuries.
Police found Chase walking down nearby Division Road a short while later, arresting him on charges of felony assault and disorderly conduct. They also arrested 38-year-old Johnston, RI. native Joseph Falco for vandalism and disorderly conduct after he allegedly threw Chase’s set of golf clubs, valued at $4,000, into the adjacent lake.
Chase claims he struck the struck the golfer out of self-defense after being pushed, but ultimately, that’s for the Rhode Island court system to figure out. For now, the only crime Chase has irrefutably commited is being a 100%, true-blue Masshole.
