British Open 2025: Two-Time Champion Withdraws as Si Woo Kim and Davis Riley Join the Field

Two-time Open Championship winner Ernie Els has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Open at Royal Portrush. The reason for his withdrawal has not been made public. Els, who won the Claret Jug in 2002 and 2012, was set to make what could have been one of his final appearances at the event.

In response to the withdrawal, the R&A confirmed that Si Woo Kim has been added to the field as an alternate, based on his world ranking. Kim, known for his consistency and short game, will now compete in his sixth Open appearance.

Also added to the field is Davis Riley, who replaces Paul Waring, another late withdrawal. Waring’s exit was not officially explained either, but his absence opens the door for Riley, who has been showing solid form on the PGA Tour in recent months.

The 2025 Open Championship field is now locked in, with Royal Portrush preparing to host the world’s best golfers in what is expected to be a challenging and memorable week.
