LIV Golf hold emergency meeting amid speculation of ‘shutdown’

The future of LIV Golf may be decided in the sudden meeting of executives.

LIV Golf executives have been called to an emergency meeting in New York ahead of a huge announcement that could decide the fate of the league.

Back in 2021, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) founded the LIV Golf tour in an attempt to act as a competitor to the PGA Tour.

Following the formation of the league several of the biggest names in the sport made the move from the PGA Tour to LIV, lured by massive multi-million-dollar contracts, including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm.

However, in recent months a number of players have left LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour for the 2026 season, including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed.

The moves raised questions about the future of the Saudi Arabian golf league, with some reports claiming it could completely collapse in the coming months.

And now, it has been reported LIV Golf executives have been called to an emergency meeting in New York ahead of an upcoming “seismic” announcement.

As reported by The Telegraph, there was not a single executive present on Tuesday at the Club de Golf Chapultepec, the Mexico City venue where the next Liv Golf event is taking place.

Instead, they were all travelling to this emergency meeting in Manhattan, with the reason of this emergency gathering yet to be disclosed.

On the same day, that the media centre in Mexico had been closed for the first time in LIV Golf’s history, allegedly due to a power board not working.

After reaching out to several LIV players, The Telegraph claim they believe that it is simply business as usual at the minute.

However, one admitted that if there is big news to come, they have their own theory, saying: “I’ll be honest. None of the players have heard anything. It’s hopefully a merger. Everyone gathers at Augusta don’t they?”

News of the meeting comes after Monday Q Info, a top golf account on social media with with almost 200,000 followers, claimed that “a bombshell announcement on LIV’s future is imminent.”

The report adds: “We don’t give out gambling advice but if you’re a prediction market type person I would bet the under of whatever they have posted.”
