BROOKS KOEPKA REVEALS SHOCKING CHEATING INCIDENT ON PGA TOUR THIS SEASON

Brooks Koepka has lifted the lid on an incident that left him questioning the integrity of professional golf, revealing that he witnessed a fellow PGA Tour player allegedly breaking the rules during a tournament this season.

The five-time major champion made the revelation during an appearance on Dan Rapaport’s Dan on Golf show, where he discussed what he believes is a growing problem with players taking advantage of situations when they think nobody is watching.

Koepka, who has previously spoken openly about cheating allegations in professional golf, admitted that he has seen competitors attempting to improve their lies in the rough.

“Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of guys do it, and guys get away with it more because you’re not on top of them,” Koepka explained.

The American acknowledged that such incidents can be difficult to prove, particularly when players are competing far apart from one another and officials cannot observe every shot.

However, one particular incident from this season stood out to him.

KOEPKA REVEALS WHAT HE WITNESSED

Koepka described the incident as particularly serious, claiming he had a clear view of what happened when an unnamed player prepared to play a chip shot.

“There’s one I saw this year that was really bad,” he said.

The golfer refused to identify the player involved, explaining only that the incident occurred during a tournament and that the individual was not competing in the upcoming Skins Game.

Koepka then provided further details about what he witnessed.

“It was a chip. I saw it. It was really bad. He went for the backswing and you could see the whole ball.”

His description suggested that the player may have altered the conditions around the ball before attempting the shot.

However, Koepka did not identify the golfer, and the incident has not been independently confirmed as an official rules violation.

WHY KOEPKA CHOSE NOT TO REPORT IT

Despite describing the incident as particularly bad, Koepka admitted that he did not approach a rules official or report the player.

When Rapaport asked whether he had considered doing so, the American explained that he ultimately decided to leave the situation alone.

“I just ate that one because karma came and bit him on the next hole,” Koepka said.

He revealed that the player went on to make a double or triple bogey on the following hole, which influenced his decision not to intervene.

Koepka also acknowledged the difficulty of proving what had happened.

“What am I going to do? I can’t prove it,” he explained.

The comments highlight the challenges officials face when attempting to monitor every shot during a professional golf tournament.

KOEPKA HAS PREVIOUSLY RAISED CONCERNS

This is not the first time Koepka has spoken about players allegedly improving their lies.

In 2020, he publicly criticised Patrick Reed following the Hero World Challenge bunker incident, when Reed received a two-stroke penalty for improving his lie.

Koepka questioned Reed’s actions at the time and suggested that players sometimes take advantage of situations when they believe their actions will go unnoticed.

His latest comments indicate that those concerns have not disappeared.

However, Koepka’s account concerns an unnamed player and an incident that has not resulted in a publicly confirmed penalty.

The revelation has nevertheless renewed attention on the importance of honesty and the responsibility players have to protect the integrity of the game.

For Koepka, the incident was memorable enough to bring up during his latest interview, even though he ultimately chose not to report it.

And with the five-time major champion now revealing what he witnessed, questions remain over how frequently such situations occur and whether more needs to be done to ensure players are held accountable when rules are broken.
