Bernhard Langer and his son walked off Tiger Woods and his son on Sunday at the PNC Championship. Team Langer buried a putt to seal the victory and send the Woods duo home without a trophy. It was not, however, a victory without a little bit of controversy.
During one of the holes, Langer had a bunker shot, and it appeared that there was a little mound on the ground where Langer placed his ball. It is scramble golf at the PNC Championship, but this drew some pushback. The mound elevated the golf ball and allowed Langer to use his driver rather than a wedge to get out of the bunker.
Woods’ former coach saw the pictures and videos of the incident and had his own question:
“Was that a clump that happened to be within a club length of his ball and no closer to the hole?”
There has been some outcry over this stroke and the overall victory for Langer and his son, but the PNC Championship did not penalize them and is not currently looking at rescinding their trophy
