F1 fans expressed their anger after it was revealed that Red Bull used a device to adjust their car’s ride height. Leading up to the US Grand Prix, there was speculation about a team employing a bib device for adjustments during race weekends.
Multiple teams alerted the FIA about the device, prompting the governing body to impose restrictions on such tools. Reports indicated that the bib device could modify ride height after the parc ferme conditions were enforced post-FP3 and between qualifying and the race.
While Red Bull acknowledged having the device on their RB20, they denied using it after the car was assembled.
A team spokesperson stated, “Yes, it exists, but it’s inaccessible once the car is fully assembled. We discussed this with the FIA and agreed on a plan moving forward.”
Fans reacted on social media, with one labeling them a “fraud team” and calling for disqualification. Comments included skepticism about Red Bull’s recent performance and allegations of rule-breaking, with McLaren driver Oscar Piastri voicing similar concerns.
Max Verstappen downplayed the FIA’s clampdown, stating it didn’t affect the car once it was built. He noted, “It’s open source; everyone can see it. We only found it helpful when parts were off, but once assembled, you can’t adjust it.”
Despite this controversy, Red Bull will not modify its RB20 in Austin but has introduced a significant upgrade package for the remaining season.
