Lewis Hamilton had a tough weekend at the 2024 US Grand Prix, facing setbacks despite some positive moments. During sprint qualifying, he was on a strong lap when Franco Colapinto spun.
In the Grand Prix, after a strong start that saw him gain five positions, he lost control of his Mercedes in Sector 3. Team principal Toto Wolff believes that incident was not Hamilton’s fault.
After struggling in qualifying and finishing P19, Hamilton made up several places right after the start at the Circuit of the Americas. However, on Lap 2, he lost his car and ended up in the gravel.
Wolff defended Hamilton, stating, “The incident in that corner came out of nowhere.
He wasn’t pushing, so from where I sit, it’s 100% not Lewis’s fault. It was gusty, and there was a slipstream.”
He emphasized that Hamilton had apologized for the incident, but he doesn’t believe it was his fault.
Wolff expressed hope for a positive farewell for Hamilton before his move to Ferrari.
“We want to celebrate and finish on a high. I’m sure we can.
Whether we achieve that through great performance, we’ll see, but we’ll give it our all. He knows the Ferrari is fast,” he concluded.
