After a challenging end to the year, the Philadelphia Phillies are entering the offseason with numerous questions about how to elevate the team’s performance.
Despite consistent success over the years, the Phillies have struggled to advance in October, often facing setbacks due to inconsistent performances from their bullpen and lineup.
This offseason, the Phillies will likely focus on improving key areas, particularly revamping their bullpen and potentially adding an outfielder to strengthen their lineup.
Additionally, there is speculation about a possible change at third base. Although Alec Bohm was an All-Star in 2024,
Tim Kelly from Bleacher Report mentioned the Phillies as a potential destination for Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency.
“If the Phillies trade Bohm to address another need, they would create a gap at third base.
Managing partner John Middleton and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski have previously made several deals with Boras, so an aggressive move isn’t out of the question following a disappointing postseason. However, Bohm, 28, is under team control for two more years.
Would the Phillies part with him to sign another expensive player in their early 30s? While there’s a chance Bregman could join the Phillies, it appears unlikely.”
Bohm’s season showcased ups and downs, including being benched during an NLDS game despite his All-Star status.
His playoff benching raised eyebrows and hinted that he could be seen as expendable.
If Philadelphia were to trade Bohm for an outfielder or bullpen support, signing Bregman would be a logical move.
The Phillies are willing to invest in talent if they believe it’s necessary.
After another early postseason exit, the organization may feel compelled to bring in another star.
Bregman’s postseason experience could be valuable for Philadelphia, but his arrival seems improbable.
