Mercedes respond to remarkable Hamilton rumour

Rumors about Lewis Hamilton potentially leaving Mercedes earlier than expected were sparked by a cryptic radio message from the seven-time F1 champion following the São Paulo Grand Prix on Sunday.

It was a challenging weekend for Hamilton at Interlagos, as he failed to progress beyond SQ1 before the sprint and Q1 in the main race.

Describing his car as “crap” and “a plank of wood,” Hamilton finished 11th in the sprint and 10th in the race, which took place in difficult conditions. Although he salvaged a point, it was little consolation.

After the race, during his cool-down lap, Hamilton addressed his team over the radio, saying, “That was a disastrous weekend, lads. Worst car ever.

Thanks for trying and hats off to the mechanics at the pit stop. If this is the last time I get to drive, I’ll be gutted that it didn’t go great. Still, I’m grateful.”

His words quickly led to speculation that Hamilton, after a successful career with Mercedes, might end his time with the team prematurely, with three races left in the season.

The 39-year-old had already announced his move to Ferrari for next year, with young Kimi Antonelli set to take over his seat.

Could Hamilton leave early, allowing Antonelli to race in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi? Sources close to Mercedes have told Sky Sports that such rumors are unfounded.

The team confirmed that Hamilton intends to finish the season before parting ways, and it’s believed his radio message was directed at team members who were no longer present after the Brazilian race.
