Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas thinks the Nuggets had a bad season

Even though the Denver Nuggets are still favored by many to win the Western Conference championship, it’s hard to feel good about their season. Losing key contributors without major additions, the Nuggets are relying on improvements over the players already on their roster.

On a recent episode of No Chill with Gilbert Arenas, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas criticized the Denver Nuggets for not making any moves this summer, saying he hates when championship teams feel that they do not need to make any additions.

“Denver didn’t make the moves they needed to make,” Arenas said. “I hate when championship teams do that because they think you’re good enough to repeat. The Bulls have done that, but something still needs to be added. You still have to compromise, do something to improve yourself. No one saw you coming, now they see you. Now they see you, so you have to add another element they didn’t see coming.

Arenas never won a championship, but appeared in 31 career playoff games, including six in his final season with the Memphis Grizzlies. The former NBA star thinks the Nuggets will still play well this season, but thinks the season has caused the Suns to pass them by. While there are certainly championship teams good enough to bounce back from, the Nuggets lost one of their best players in Bruce Brown and did not replace him in free agency. While the loss of Brown probably won’t cause Denver to drop below other Western Conference teams in the power rankings, there is reason to believe that the defending champions’ situation has worsened over the summer.
