The FIA has determined that there is no new evidence regarding the incident between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen during the United States Grand Prix.
Consequently, McLaren’s appeal for a ‘Right of Review’ has been rejected, and the stewards will not revisit the matter.
In the closing laps in Austin, Norris was trying to overtake Verstappen, benefitting from fresher tires.
However, Verstappen’s strong defensive driving prevented Norris from making a pass.
As the race neared its end, Norris attempted to overtake at turn 12, but Verstappen took the corner first, forcing Norris wide and leading to a penalty for the Brit for going off-track.
McLaren disagreed with the penalty imposed on Norris but initially had no plans to file a protest. Nevertheless, they opted for the ‘Right of Review.’
On Friday, stewards discussed the review with representatives from both Red Bull and McLaren.
McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, expressed doubts about a favorable outcome, a sentiment echoed by Red Bull’s Christian Horner.
Their concerns were validated, as the stewards found insufficient evidence to reconsider the incident.
As a result, Norris’s penalty stands, and the final standings remain unchanged, with Verstappen retaining third place and Norris in fourth.
