LIV Golfand’s Jon Rahm took a not-so-subtle dig in deciding to award Scottie Scheffler the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
Jon Rahm weighed in on the decision to retire as PGA Tour Player of the Year after Scottie Scheffler swept the honors.

Rahm made a surprise appearance on The Jim Rome Show on January 10, despite previously insisting he plans to step away from the spotlight following his seismic decision to swap tours.

The reigning Masters champion chatted with Romo for about 10 minutes, discussing why he decided to join LIV despite previously saying he had no intention of bolting.

He said his team’s name has been chosen, but wouldn’t reveal it yet, nor would he confirm which players would be joining him. However, there are some rumours.

Rahm explained that he joined for the money, then waxed lyrical about team golf and the opportunity to create something new.He also offered thoughts on how PGA Tour members voted Scheffler Player of the Year even though Rahm won four times.

You‘ll also remember that Rahm held his nerve to win the Masters last April, defeating Brooks Koepka in the green jacket. Scheffler did not win in the main event, but was a pillar of consistency during the season. He also won at Phoenix and the coveted Players.

Rahm emphasized that Scheffler had an amazing year, but noted that winning the hardware is usually important. He explained andquot;Oh man, look, Scottie had an amazing year. A wonderful year. … I don’t want to take anything away from what he did, but historically, the hardware is what he is and he basically won player of the year.

The year Patrick Cantlay won I was basically a more consistent player, in 2021 I had a big I think I had 16 top 10s that year and I totally understood why Patrick won it. It maybe because of his high ball strike this year [the selectors] decided to go the other way, but at the end of the day it is well deserved .
Rory words were very matureRory McIlroy turned heads ahead of the start of his season in Dubai by admitting he was too judgmental of players joining LIV.

He also described Rahmandi’s decision to join a rival league as a smart business move. His words were echoed by Phil Mickelson, who urged pro-LIV fans not to gather McIlroy for an apparent reversal.Mickelson wrote X about McIlroyand’s change of tone, a moment to end hostilities between tours.

Rahm said on the show: andquot;I think it reduced tensions. Rory is an amazing player who has taken a lot. It takes a lot of maturity and it takes a lot of stepping back and saying when you’re wrong, especially with a global audience like hers.

So, good was my good friend. His reaction was very positive. Obviously I’m sad and sad that we’re not directly competing all year together, but he’s a good friend who’s still a good friend.

Rahm added: We all want golf to be in the best possible position, primarily to give fans and spectators what they need to see.
