At the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen received two penalties from race officials. After his son was sanctioned, Jos Verstappen withdrew his support for Red Bull.
It was later determined that Max had gained an advantage by pushing Lando Norris off the track, resulting in a reprimand.
Despite these penalties, Max finished sixth. Norris secured second place, narrowing Verstappen’s overall lead to 47 points.
With four races remaining in the 2024 season, McLaren cars are currently outperforming Red Bull.
This season, Jos Verstappen has been vocal about his discontent with Red Bull’s performance, stating that the team’s struggles have forced Max to adopt a more aggressive driving style.
He remarked, “Max is doing everything he can to win the title, but the car isn’t good enough, so he has to drive this way.
He won’t change his style just because some stewards are uncomfortable with it.”
While Jos acknowledged that the second penalty was justified, he emphasized that Max would not modify his approach as he aims for a third consecutive title.
“Max’s second incident might have been excessive considering what occurred on Sunday.
But he has to move on. Discussing it won’t change anything; he must drive his way.”
Max himself expressed frustration with the race pace, criticizing the performance of the RB15.
“We’re just too slow, which puts me in these difficult situations. That’s the issue.”
As they head to Brazil, Max remains close to clinching his fourth title, but Red Bull has slipped to third in the Constructors’ Championship, now trailing McLaren by 54 points, with McLaren leading Ferrari by 29 points.
The upcoming races in São Paulo, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi are crucial for the teams.
