Lando Norris is being investigated for “erratic driving” during the final lap of the sprint race at COTA.

Lando Norris is being investigated by the FIA for his on-track clashes with Charles Leclerc during the final lap of the Sprint race.

Norris was reported to have been driving “erratically” while defending his position against Leclerc on Lap 19 at the Circuit of The Americas.

Norris had a challenging start to the 2024 United States GP weekend, qualifying fourth for the Sprint, while his championship rival Max Verstappen secured pole position.

His Sprint race on Saturday also brought additional difficulties. After starting from P4, he quickly moved up two spots and was closely following Verstappen. However, he made a mistake on the last lap, losing second place to Carlos Sainz.

Running wide not only cost him P2 but also put him at risk from Leclerc, who was in P4.

As he tried to fend off Leclerc, the FIA took note of Norris’s maneuvers, leading to the investigation reported by Autosport.

Verstappen won the Sprint, with Sainz finishing second and Norris taking third, just ahead of Leclerc in fourth. Oscar Piastri finished in tenth place.

Following his victory, Verstappen extended his lead in the F1 drivers’ championship over Norris. Before the Sprint, he had a 52-point advantage, which has now increased to 54 points.

Verstappen earned eight points for his win, while Norris collected six. Currently, Verstappen has 339 points, and Norris has 285.

Despite the setback, Norris has the opportunity to turn things around in Mexico with a strong qualifying performance and a race win to close the gap to Verstappen.
