Lewis Hamilton qualified eighth for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola on Sunday.
In front of the seven-time world champion is Yuki Tsunoda, who showed exceptional performance in races.
Mercedes teammate George Russell was two places up in sixth place, as both Silver Arrows were unable to replicate their training results.
These were the words of the 103-time Grand Prix winner after qualifying in Imola.
After qualifying, Hamilton said in the paddock: “I think George was the maximum pace our car could achieve.
We didn’t achieve that today.
” We looked strong yesterday but pace-wise it’s positive that we’re a little bit better.
” Hamilton was asked why Mercedes tends to be off the pace throughout the weekend.
“One of the things we don’t fully understand is that it seems like we’re a little bit quicker on Friday and then on Saturday we lose a little bit of time to the other guys.
George was pretty quick from there so I think we did a pretty good job of tackling, as he’s done most of the year.
I’ve got a lot of work to do.
” Hamilton “keeps his head down” as Mercedes continues to develop The Briton also spoke about how he manages to approach each Grand Prix weekend positively.
“You just keep your head down but when you look at the difference in the car over the weekend and you make upgrade after upgrade and you’re still told the same thing every weekend, straight-line speed and everything else.
” It changes.
Collect as many points as possible.
“We’ll start to see a full transition and improvement over the next three races or so, but it’s probably still a bit slower than other teams, especially the Reds.
” Is Hamilton heavy?
Are you involved in Mercedes development?
Hamilton will move to Ferrari at the end of the season, but he still plays an active role in this season and his future development.
“Still, nothing has changed.
We still have big meetings there.
I still really enjoy working and discussing with everyone.
” The team was really, really great and I have a lot of respect for them.
I am here.
I want to help this team make progress this year and next.
What I’m working on is probably what we need for next year and I might not be doing this, but I want the team to excel and be successful.
” Lewis Hamilton will do just that and hopes to make progress on race day at Imola.
