WHAT SPARKED $430M BACKFLIP THAT DOOMED LIV.

LIV Golf’s future has been dealt a crushing blow after investment firm BC Partners pulled out of a proposed $430 million rescue deal, leaving the Saudi-backed competition facing collapse.

The dramatic withdrawal came after LIV Golf reportedly failed to secure enough player commitments for its planned 2027 relaunch.

Why Did BC Partners Walk Away?

BC Partners had been prepared to inject approximately A$430 million (US$300 million) into LIV Golf following Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund’s decision to withdraw financial support.

However, the deal depended on securing enough top players to make the revamped competition commercially viable.

While around 30 golfers reportedly expressed interest, several major stars, including Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Dustin Johnson, did not commit to new agreements.

Without those guarantees, BC Partners abandoned the investment, effectively ending LIV Golf’s hopes of a financial rescue.

What Happens to LIV Golf Now?

The failed agreement has forced LIV Golf to abandon its proposed 2027 relaunch and begin winding down operations.

The collapse also casts uncertainty over the futures of several high-profile golfers, particularly Australia’s Cameron Smith, who became one of the competition’s biggest attractions.

LIV Golf Adelaide, one of the league’s most popular tournaments, also faces an uncertain future.

The End of a Billion-Dollar Experiment?

Since launching in 2022, LIV Golf has spent billions challenging the PGA Tour, attracting major champions with enormous signing bonuses and lucrative prize money.

However, financial difficulties, player uncertainty and the withdrawal of Saudi backing have ultimately undermined the league’s survival.

What began as an ambitious revolution in professional golf now appears headed for an extraordinary conclusion, leaving fans wondering where its biggest stars will compete next.
