Cavaliers Urged to Cut Ties With $197 Million Star in Blockbuster Trade

Cleveland Cavaliers have expectations for the 2025-26 NBA season.

Last season, the Cavs proved they are one of the best teams in the league. They lost in the second round of the playoffs, however.  The Cavaliers are likely to make some noise this season with a somewhat different roster and a generally weaker Eastern Conference.

Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland are among the best guards on the Cavaliers’ team. Some NBA officials don’t like how good Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell have been together. Because of that, one NBA executive thinks it is about time Garland’s time in Cleveland ends.

An NBA executive recently said that the Cleveland Cavaliers should trade Darius Garland.

The executive mentioned that trading Darius is the need of the hour. That backcourt has small height with him and Donovan. I love the Lonzo (Ball) trade. Kenny should trade Darius for a competent backup and start Lonzo, Donovan, De’Andre, Evan and Jarrett.

Sacramento liked him before getting Dennis from Detroit. Why not reach out and discuss if they would like Darius for Malik Monk and salary filler?

Although Garland is not a bad asset, he certainly has been becoming somewhat of a liability. Being one of the better guards in the league and an All-Star speaks to his caliber.

He is not good at defending and is definitely the worst on-court defender. He’s 6-foot-1 and a great player but there is obviously a ceiling here. It’s clear he’s not the answer.

If the Cavaliers make the 25-year-old available, he will enter the top players on the trade market. Last year the 25-year-old had one of his best seasons. He averaged 20.6 points per game, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals. He shot 47.2 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from deep in 75 games and 30.7 minutes of action.

A few teams could use an upgrade at the guard spot, including the Sacramento Kings and now the Houston Rockets after the loss of Fred VanVleet.

Let us wait and watch how the first half of the season goes down. Only time will tell if the Cavaliers see Garland as a key piece to their future alongside Mitchell.
