LIV Golf has released an official statement following Phil Mickelson’s reported suspension and his decision to withdraw from next month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
The six-time major champion has been absent from competition for much of the season, previously citing a private family health matter as the primary reason for stepping away from the game. However, recent allegations concerning Mickelson’s personal conduct have generated renewed attention surrounding one of golf’s most recognizable figures.
In its statement, LIV Golf emphasized its commitment to professionalism and respect while acknowledging Mickelson’s situation.
“LIV Golf remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and respect throughout our organization,” the statement read. “We are aware of the recent reports involving Phil Mickelson and will continue to monitor the situation appropriately.”
The league also expressed support for Mickelson and his family during what has become a difficult period.
“We recognize that Phil and his family are dealing with important personal matters, and we respect their privacy during this time.”
Mickelson recently announced his withdrawal from The Open, ending hopes that the 2013 champion would return to major championship competition this summer.
His attorney has disputed several of the allegations that have recently surfaced, stating that some claims are false while others revisit matters that have already been addressed privately or publicly.
“Mr. Mickelson’s priority is to become the husband, father and man his family deserves,” his attorney previously stated. “Right now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter.”
The reported suspension has not yet been officially detailed by LIV Golf, and league officials have not disclosed the duration or terms of any disciplinary measures.
Several LIV players have remained publicly supportive of Mickelson, while others have declined to comment as the situation continues to develop.
Mickelson has been one of LIV Golf’s most prominent players since joining the league in 2022, helping attract global attention to the circuit during its early years.
The 54-year-old remains one of the most decorated players in modern golf, with six major championships and more than 40 professional victories worldwide.
LIV Golf’s statement concluded by reiterating the league’s focus on its players, teams and the future of the sport.
“Our focus remains on supporting our players, our fans and the continued growth of LIV Golf around the world.”
As questions continue surrounding Mickelson’s future, both his absence from The Open and the reported suspension have created further uncertainty about when the veteran golfer may return to competitive action.
For now, LIV Golf and Mickelson appear focused on allowing the situation to unfold while maintaining privacy regarding ongoing personal matters.
