PHIL MICKELSON NEWS RAISES CONCERN AS GOLFER SEEKS TREATMENT

Phil Mickelson has been largely away from competitive golf this season, but the latest news surrounding the six-time major champion has brought renewed attention to his situation away from the course.

Mickelson has endured a difficult period in his personal life, with his representatives previously asking for privacy while he dealt with a private family health matter.

Now, new details have emerged about the steps the 56-year-old has taken during this challenging period.

According to a report by TMZ Sports, Mickelson voluntarily entered an addiction treatment facility in recent weeks. A representative for the golfer confirmed that he was seeking professional help for both family trauma and addiction.

Mickelson has since left the facility.

The development comes months after his representatives addressed concerns surrounding his personal life, saying that his priority was becoming “the husband, father, and man his family deserves.”

Mickelson’s struggles with gambling have also been well documented. In 2023, he acknowledged that his gambling had progressed beyond what he considered moderation and into addiction, while revealing that he had sought professional help over a number of years.

The latest report does not specify the nature of the addiction involved in his recent treatment, meaning it would be inappropriate to assume it was specifically related to gambling.

Away from his personal situation, Mickelson’s professional career has also entered an uncertain period.

The former world No. 2 has played just once on the LIV Golf League this season, finishing tied for 48th at LIV Golf South Africa in March. He has also missed all four major championships in 2026.

His future with LIV is uncertain as the league undergoes major changes, while his playing commitments for the next phase have yet to be formally confirmed.

For now, however, Mickelson’s immediate focus appears to be on his personal wellbeing rather than his return to competitive golf.

The confirmation that he sought professional treatment offers a rare glimpse into the difficult period he has been experiencing away from the spotlight.

Mickelson has since left the treatment facility, but questions remain about when he might return to competitive golf and what the next chapter of his career will look like.
