Phil Mickelson has announced that he is temporarily stepping away from LIV Golf as he continues to deal with mounting off-course controversy and personal matters.

The six-time major champion has largely been absent from competitive golf in recent months, citing a private family health matter. However, his decision to take a break from LIV Golf comes as he also faces renewed public scrutiny following recent allegations concerning his personal conduct.
Mickelson’s temporary exit means he will miss upcoming LIV Golf events while he focuses on addressing personal issues away from the spotlight.
In a statement released through his representatives, Mickelson emphasized that his priority is his family during this difficult period.
“My focus right now is on my family and the personal matters that require my full attention,” the statement read. “I appreciate the understanding and support I’ve received, and I look forward to returning when the time is right.”
The announcement follows weeks of intense media attention after allegations resurfaced involving Mickelson’s past conduct. His legal team has denied many of the claims, describing several allegations as false while disputing others that have recently been republished.
Despite the controversy, LIV Golf is understood to respect Mickelson’s decision to step away temporarily and focus on his personal life.
The 54-year-old has already withdrawn from The Open Championship, extending his absence from professional competition.
Mickelson has been one of LIV Golf’s biggest names since joining the circuit in 2022, helping launch the league and serving as one of its most recognizable ambassadors.
Although there is currently no timetable for his return, sources close to the golfer say he intends to resume his professional career once his personal matters have been addressed.
For now, Mickelson’s focus remains away from the golf course as he navigates one of the most challenging periods of his career.
