Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump’s relationship has reportedly come under pressure following his DUI charge after a car crash last month, with sources claiming the pair have now taken steps to shield themselves.
According to reports, Woods and Trump have become increasingly “paranoid” about leaks and have dismissed members of their staff in the aftermath of the incident.
Woods is currently facing misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence and for allegedly refusing to submit to a chemical or physical test after crashing his Land Rover on Jupiter Island, Florida, last month. Although the 15-time major winner was not injured, the case threatens to harm his reputation as it heads toward trial.
People said to be close to the high-profile couple have described the strain the crash has placed on their relationship. One insider alleged that Vanessa — the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump — confronted Woods with an “ultimatum” just hours after his arrest.
The 50-year-old golfer, who denies both accusations, is alleged to have been under the influence of “some medication or drug” on March 27 when he clipped a trailer while attempting to overtake, lost control of the vehicle, and rolled the car onto its side.
He reportedly registered zero on a breathalyzer test for alcohol, but declined to provide a urine sample for further testing. Woods told police he had been looking at his phone and adjusting the radio when the crash happened. Officers also found hydrocodone, a powerful painkiller, in his pocket.
Despite walking away unharmed, Woods later checked into a rehab facility in Switzerland. He is due back in court next month, while his legal team continues to oppose efforts by prosecutors to release his medical records, including details of his prescriptions.
Away from the public eye, the couple are also said to be battling to protect their privacy. Page Six reported that Woods and Trump, who confirmed their relationship publicly a year ago, have let support staff go because they fear private information is being passed to the press.
One unnamed source said: “It’s not a big staff. They’re paranoid of leaks, and she hates the press.” The same source added that Woods is “doing well and is focused on getting better” since arriving at the Swiss facility, and insisted the relationship remains solid. “They’re going strong and her kids love him,” the insider said.
Since the incident, Woods has largely withdrawn from public view. In a statement released a few days after his arrest, he said he understood “the seriousness of the situation” and would be stepping back to seek treatment and focus on his health.
He said the break was necessary to prioritize his well-being and work toward “lasting recovery,” adding that he hoped to return “in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally.”
Woods ended his statement by thanking supporters for their understanding and asking for privacy for himself, his family, and his loved ones.
