Tiger Woods has broken his silence after Jackson Koivun produced an unbeaten Presidents Cup debut, with the 21-year-old rookie playing a key role in Team USA’s look remarkable comeback at Medinah.
Koivun entered the competition as one of the youngest and least experienced members of the American team, but he quickly showed that the occasion was not too big for him.
The rookie finished with a perfect 2-0-1 record, becoming the only American player to go undefeated during the Presidents Cup. His biggest moment came in Sunday’s singles, when he fought back from 1-down through 11 holes against Si Woo Kim to claim another crucial point for the United States.
Koivun’s performance came as Team USA overturned a three-point deficit on the final day to win the Presidents Cup 17-13, extending its winning streak in the event to 11 consecutive victories.
Woods, a former Team USA captain, reacted to the dramatic comeback on social media, praising the entire American team for the way it responded under pressure.
“What a comeback! Congrats to Team USA on an incredible Presidents Cup victory. They needed all the matchups to go their way today, and they got it done. Great team win,” Woods wrote.
Although Woods did not specifically name Koivun in that statement, the rookie was one of the players who delivered when the Americans needed it most.
His victory over Kim moved the United States within one point of securing the Cup, adding another significant chapter to what had already been an impressive debut.
Team captain Brandt Snedeker was even more direct in his assessment of Koivun, praising the young American after watching him handle the pressure of his final-day assignment.
“The kid is special. He’s different. For a 21-year-old kid to stand up there and hit those last two balls like he did, not many people like that,” Snedeker said.
Koivun himself admitted that the experience had been difficult to put into words, describing his Presidents Cup debut as a major learning experience and expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him by the captain.
The performance also adds another layer to Koivun’s rapid rise on the PGA Tour. Earlier in his career, he broke Tiger Woods’ long-standing NCAA 36-hole scoring record at the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational, making his connection to the 15-time major champion even more notable.
Now, after an undefeated Presidents Cup debut and a performance that helped Team USA complete one of the biggest comebacks in the event’s history, Koivun has given the established stars of American golf another reason to take notice.
