Wyndham Clark’s girlfriend Emily Tanner has clear message for haters after U.S. Open win

Wyndham Clark’s girlfriend takes to social media after her boyfriend battles a hostile atmosphere at Shinnecock Hills to claim his second U.S. Open title.

Wyndham Clark’s girlfriend Emily Tanner has sent a clear message to her boyfriend’s critics after the American overcame a hostile crowd to win the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

Clark, 32, captured his second U.S. Open title on Sunday, edging out Sam Burns by one shot despite receiving little support from large sections of the New York gallery throughout the championship.

Fans at Shinnecock Hills made no secret of their desire to see someone else lift the trophy, with Clark regularly subjected to chants and taunts during the final round, on a day where Scottie Scheffler was going in search of the career Grand Slam.

A number of unruly spectators were even ejected from the grounds, such was their verbal abuse of Clark on Sunday.

After securing a battle-hardened one-shot victory, Clark acknowledged the frosty reception during his victory speech.

“New York didn’t really like me. I love you guys, but, you know, I get it,” Clark said.

The defining moment of the tournament came at the par-5 16th, where Clark holed a clutch 30-foot birdie putt to move two shots clear of Burns.

A bogey at the 17th briefly opened the door, but Clark safely navigated the final hole to secure his fifth PGA Tour title and second victory of the season.

After tapping in for par on the 18th, Clark was mobbed by his team, including his girlfriend Emily Tanner and his father Randall.

Less than 24 hours later, Clark’s girlfriend took to Instagram to further show her support to her boyfriend.

“The most deserving. You did it!! Love you so much,” she posted with a series of photos

Emily’s message of love and support comes after a difficult 12 months for Clark, who remains a divisive figure among some golf fans following a series of well-publicised incidents during the 2025 season.

Clark faced heavy criticism after damaging a couple of lockers following a missed cut at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

The American also came under fire for launching a driver into a sponsor board during the PGA Championship, a month before at Quail Hollow Club.

Clark has repeatedly apologised for those incidents and admitted after his victory that some of the criticism aimed his way was understandable.

“Some of it is self-deserved,” said Clark of the verbal abuse he received at Shinnecock Hills.

“I did some unfortunate things last year that I really regret. I’ve been sorry multiple times and I’m still sorry, so hopefully I can win you guys over eventually.

“But I get it, they root for Scottie. Grand Slams only happen a few times. He’s going to get it. He’s the best player in the world, but today it’s my day.”

Clark won his second U.S. Open on Sunday

While Clark has accepted full responsibility for his past mistakes, many observers felt sections of the crowd crossed a line during the final round as they openly rooted against him.

Some analysts consider a re-think is needed for future major sites in New York, such has been the verbal abuse from fans at both the 2026 U.S. Open and also the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage, which got completely out of hand on the Saturday afternoon.
