Phil Mickelson has spoken publicly for the first time since announcing his decision to step away from LIV Golf, saying his current priority is focusing on his family and personal well-being.

The six-time major champion has found himself at the center of growing controversy in recent weeks following allegations concerning his personal conduct. While his legal team has denied many of the claims, Mickelson has opted to temporarily step away from professional golf to deal with matters away from the public spotlight.
Breaking his silence, Mickelson thanked fans, friends and fellow players for their support during what he described as a challenging period.
“This has been one of the most difficult times of my life,” Mickelson said. “Right now, my focus is on my family, my health and becoming the husband, father and person my loved ones deserve.”
The LIV Golf star also asked for privacy as he works through personal matters.
“I appreciate everyone who has reached out with kindness and support. My family and I ask for privacy as we navigate this together,” he added.
Mickelson’s temporary departure comes after he withdrew from The Open Championship and amid increased scrutiny surrounding allegations that have dominated headlines in recent weeks.
His attorney has strongly disputed many of the allegations, describing several as false while arguing others revisit issues Mickelson has already addressed publicly or privately.
Despite the controversy, Mickelson expressed hope that he will eventually return to competitive golf.
“Golf has given me so much throughout my life, and I fully intend to return when the time is right. But for now, my attention belongs with my family,” he said.
LIV Golf has yet to announce when Mickelson could return to competition, and no timetable has been provided.
One of the league’s original marquee signings, Mickelson has played a key role in LIV Golf since joining in 2022.
For now, however, the veteran golfer says his priorities lie away from the fairways as he focuses on rebuilding and spending time with those closest to him.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support me. I look forward to returning stronger when I’m ready,”Mickelson concluded.
