Tom Kim Issues Official Statement After Losing $70K of Scottish Open Prize Money

Tom Kim has responded after reports that approximately $70,000 of his Genesis Scottish Open prize money was deducted for tax purposes, saying the financial hit does little to diminish the significance of his victory.

The South Korean star captured the Genesis Scottish Open title with a superb performance, earning the winner’s prize before the required tax deductions were applied.

Addressing the situation, Kim said he understood that tax obligations are part of competing around the world and remained grateful for the opportunity to lift the trophy.

“Winning the Genesis Scottish Open is something I’ll always be proud of,” Kim said. “Of course, nobody enjoys seeing part of their prize money deducted, but that’s part of playing professional golf around the world.”

The 24-year-old added that his focus remains on his golf rather than the financial aspect of the victory.

“The trophy, the memories, and the confidence I gained this week mean far more to me than the amount that ends up in my bank account,” he said.

Kim also thanked tournament organizers, fans, and his team for their support throughout the week.

“I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who made this week special. My team, my family, and the fans have been amazing, and I’m excited for what’s next.”

Despite the reported tax deduction, Kim’s victory still represents one of the biggest achievements of his career, providing a substantial payday along with valuable world ranking points and momentum heading into The Open Championship.

Looking ahead, Kim said he is determined to build on his success.

“This win gives me a lot of confidence. I’ll enjoy it for a little while, then it’s time to get back to work and prepare for the next challenge.”
