Tom Kim Loses $70,000 of Scottish Open Prize Money to Tax After Victory

Tom Kim’s memorable victory at the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open earned him a winner’s check of $1.575 million, but the South Korean star won’t be taking home every dollar of that prize.

A portion of Kim’s earnings is expected to be withheld for tax purposes under U.K. tax rules, with reports estimating that around $70,000 of his prize money will be deducted before he receives his payout.

Despite the tax deduction, Kim still walks away with the vast majority of the winner’s prize after producing a superb performance at The Renaissance Club to claim his fourth PGA Tour title.

The victory ended a lengthy winless streak and provided the perfect boost heading into The Open Championship.

Kim finished at 17-under-par, comfortably securing the title and the tournament’s top prize of $1.575 million from the $9 million purse.

While losing a portion of his earnings to taxes is never welcome, it is a standard part of competing in international sporting events, with professional golfers often subject to local tax laws in the countries where tournaments are held.

In addition to the financial reward, Kim’s triumph also earned him valuable world ranking points, increased FedExCup points, and significant momentum heading into the final major championship of the season.

Even after the estimated tax deduction, the Scottish Open victory remains one of the biggest financial and professional successes of Kim’s career.
