LIV Golf Issues Official Statement Following Meeting at Bedminster

LIV Golf has issued an official statement following a significant meeting during this week’s tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, confirming that the league is moving closer to a landmark investment deal that could reshape its future and give players an unprecedented ownership stake.

The statement, delivered by LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, outlines the league’s ambitious plans for its next chapter while reaffirming its commitment to long-term growth and innovation.

According to O’Neil, LIV Golf has reached an agreement with a lead investor, with the deal already signed by the investor and approved by the league’s Board of Directors. The investment is expected to anchor a broader transaction designed to strengthen LIV Golf’s financial position and accelerate its global expansion.

“LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players,” O’Neil said.

The CEO also revealed that interest extends well beyond a single investor, noting that more than a dozen additional parties have expressed interest in becoming minority investors. The proposed multi-partner structure is intended to provide long-term stability while supporting the continued growth of the league.

One of the most notable announcements in the statement was the confirmation that LIV Golf intends to make its players the majority equity holders in the league. If completed, the move would represent a first among major global sports leagues, giving players a direct ownership stake in the organization they compete in.

O’Neil described the initiative as a major milestone that would provide LIV Golf with a strong foundation for future expansion while reinforcing its player-first philosophy.

The league expects to finalize the terms of the investment in the coming weeks, with the goal of completing the transaction in September. While negotiations continue behind the scenes, LIV Golf emphasized that its immediate attention remains on delivering a successful event at Bedminster and closing out the 2026 season on a high note.

“In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong,” O’Neil added.

The announcement marks one of the most significant business developments in LIV Golf’s short history. Since launching in 2022, the league has challenged the traditional structure of professional golf through team competition, innovative formats, and lucrative player contracts. The proposed ownership model now signals another bold step that could further distinguish LIV Golf from other professional sports organizations.

With negotiations expected to conclude in the coming weeks, all eyes will be on whether the historic investment is finalized, potentially ushering in a new era in which LIV Golf players become majority owners of the league and play a central role in shaping its future.
