Phil Mickelson has broken his silence after fresh allegations of inappropriate conduct emerged in a recent report, with the six-time major champion strongly disputing several of the claims while emphasizing his focus on his family.
The allegations surfaced in a report that detailed claims made by Ashley Perez, the former wife of golfer Pat Perez, regarding an alleged incident involving Mickelson during a PGA Tour event in 2015.
According to the report, Perez alleged that Mickelson showed her an explicit photograph and made inappropriate comments while the group was staying together during tournament week. Mickelson has denied the allegations through his legal representatives.
In a statement released through his attorney, Mickelson challenged several aspects of the report and maintained that some claims were either false or distorted.
“Some of the allegations are simply untrue, while others revisit mistakes that have already been acknowledged publicly or privately,” the statement said. “Stacking disputed claims next to matters that have already been addressed creates a false and misleading narrative.”
The statement also emphasized that Mickelson’s primary focus remains his family, particularly as they continue dealing with a private health matter that has kept him away from competitive golf for much of the year.
“Mr. Mickelson’s priority is to become the husband, father and man his family deserves,” the statement continued. “Right now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter.”
The controversy comes shortly after Mickelson announced his withdrawal from next month’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The 2013 Open champion had previously indicated that family concerns were the main reason behind his reduced playing schedule.
Mickelson’s attorney also defended the golfer’s character and questioned the overall portrayal contained in recent reports.
“No person, no article, and no book can present an accurate, complete or personal story of the life Mr. Mickelson and his family have lived,” the statement read.
Additional reports in recent weeks have also linked Mickelson to allegations involving inappropriate conduct at private golf clubs in California. Those allegations have likewise been disputed by his legal team, which described one reported incident as a misunderstanding that had been resolved.
Amy Mickelson has reportedly continued to support her husband throughout the controversy, with the family choosing to maintain privacy regarding their personal matters.
The allegations have generated significant discussion throughout the golf world, particularly given Mickelson’s status as one of the most accomplished and recognizable players in the sport.
At this time, no criminal charges have been filed against Mickelson, and the allegations remain disputed.
As the controversy continues, Mickelson appears focused on his family and personal matters while stepping away from professional golf.
For now, the golf world awaits further developments as one of the game’s most decorated players faces one of the most challenging periods of his career away from the course.
