Wyndham Clark has spoken out about the unusual atmosphere surrounding Team USA at the 2026 Presidents Cup, as Team USA battles to turn things around at Medinah Country Club.
Clark was part of the American team on Saturday as Brandt Snedeker continued to make major changes to his pairings while trying to fight back from a difficult start to the competition.
The United States entered Saturday trailing the International team, but Clark remained one of the players Snedeker continued to rely on. He was paired with Collin Morikawa in the morning four-ball session before returning alongside Sam Burns for the afternoon foursomes.
However, Clark’s comments about his Presidents Cup experience centered on something outside the ropes: the crowd.
Earlier in the week, the two-time U.S. Open champion admitted that the atmosphere at Medinah had not been what he expected from a home Presidents Cup.
“It was kind of dead out there,” Clark said. “I felt like the momentum could have been better, to be honest, because we weren’t really feeling the fans, I think, as much as normal.”
Clark pointed to one particular moment involving Morikawa, saying the lack of reaction from the crowd was surprising even after a brilliant approach shot.
“There was a few shots — I mean, Collin hit a 5-wood on, what was it, 11 to like 10 feet, and we didn’t even know if it was on the green because no one clapped,” Clark explained.
Rather than simply criticizing the spectators, Clark framed his comments as a challenge to the American supporters.
“We’re saying this more as a challenge that hopefully tomorrow and the weekend the fans are out there really rooting us on,” he said.
The comments came after Clark had already experienced difficult crowd reactions earlier in the year. During the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, sections of the gallery repeatedly jeered him while he battled to protect his lead.
Clark therefore arrived at the Presidents Cup expecting the home crowd to provide a different kind of energy. Instead, he felt the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet at times.
On the course, Clark has remained heavily involved in Snedeker’s plans. He and Morikawa were beaten 2 and 1 by Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim during Saturday morning’s four-ball session after initially building a two-hole lead.
Clark was then selected to play alongside Burns in the afternoon foursomes after Snedeker made the surprise decision to rest world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
That move placed Clark in another important role as Team USA attempted to close the gap on the International side.
Despite the unusual moments surrounding the American team, Clark has continued to make himself available for the captain and remains focused on helping Team USA during the closing stages of the Presidents Cup.
With the singles matches approaching, Clark will now hope the Medinah crowd finally delivers the atmosphere he believes the American team needs.
